Andrea Schumacher Interiors is honored to be featured on the cover of the September/October 2026 issue of Colorado Homes & Lifestyles. The cover story, “A Room of Her Own,” steps inside Andrea Schumacher’s personal Denver kitchen—a richly layered space designed around family, entertaining, and the freedom to follow her own instincts.
Renovating her Midcentury Modern home gave Andrea the opportunity to reimagine its kitchen for the way her family actually lives. Rather than simply updating the finishes, she reconsidered the flow of the entire space, creating a generous central island where everyone could gather while allowing family and guests to move comfortably throughout the room.
The resulting kitchen balances everyday function with deeply personal design. Calacatta marble brings expressive movement to the countertops and backsplash, while soft white cabinetry keeps the room feeling warm and serene. Furniture-inspired refrigerator and freezer panels, aged brass hardware, a professional Wolf range, and carefully planned storage give the kitchen an elegant, collected quality without sacrificing practicality.
One of the room’s defining features is its hand-painted wallpaper, inspired by Andrea’s memories of India and her grandfather’s fascination with exotic places. The panoramic mural introduces a sense of history and imagination, while collected Moroccan tagines and other meaningful objects make the space feel unmistakably personal. Sealed with a protective coating, the wallpaper is also durable enough for the realities of a hardworking family kitchen.
Whimsical hardware adds another layer of personality, with mermaid motifs and crown-inspired details appearing throughout the cabinetry. Meanwhile, practical necessities—including the coffee station and beverage center—are concealed behind millwork, helping the main kitchen remain visually calm and uncluttered.
Just beyond the kitchen, a former laundry room was transformed into a dramatic butler’s pantry. Saturated blue cabinetry, patterned tile, brass accents, and a vintage rug create a jewel-box contrast to the kitchen’s creamy palette. The pantry provides essential secondary storage and workspace while becoming a memorable design moment of its own.
Designing for herself ultimately allowed Andrea to take creative risks she might once have questioned. As she recalls in the feature, “This is my house. I can do whatever I want.” The result is a kitchen that feels both elevated and entirely lived in—a setting for family dinners, holiday baking, celebrations with friends, and the quiet routines of everyday life.
